I’m really hard on my laptops. My previous one barely lasted two years. Perhaps it was that time my kid spilled milk on the keyboard or the several times I dropped it (doh!). Actually, I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did.
I just got my new MacBook Pro recently and I am determined to make it last longer than two years. With that goal in mind, I purchased several products designed to do just that and since I’ve now been using them for about two months, I thought I’d write a short review about each.
First off, the Incase Hardshell. I purchased this with the computer. Better safe than sorry. Plus the reviews were really good so I figured it was worth the fifty extra bucks to protect my new baby. So far, so good. It comes in orange, green, blue and pink. I opted for the orange cover. It makes my computer standout and I really like the feel of it. My only complaint is that it slips off a bit when I lift up the screen from the closed position but other than that, it was easy to get on and fits really well.
Next, I LOVE my Twelve South SurfacePad. I spied one of these during my trip to Austin for SXSW. Since I’m always wearing jewelry, I tend to scratch up the surface of any laptop I have. Not any more! This leather accessory is great for preventing scratches plus it’s really comfortable and looks good, too! It comes in a smooth finish or one with a pattern. I chose the one with the pattern and love the way it feels. It was worth the $40 + shipping I paid.
Last but not least is the product that will probably make the biggest difference in the life of my computer. This is the Marware Silicone Keyboard Protector. It takes a little while to get used to how the keys feel underneath this cover but already it has saved my keyboard from wayward cookie crumbs, sticky fingers, and whatever else that would probably be wedged underneath a key or two. It’s washable and doesn’t prevent the lid from closing tightly. Cost was about $25 plus tax.
So, as you can see, I’m being a little OCD about keeping my MBP in good condition but considering how much these cost, it’s worth the extra money and effort. With any luck, this one will last longer than my previous laptop.
